    Earth Day – April 22

Earth Day was first celebrated on April 22, 1970 and in the over 40 years that have passed, Earth Day has become the world’s largest secular civic event. More than 1 billion people participate in Earth Day activities through more than 20,000 partners in over 190 countries across the globe.

Earth Day is a time to create new global policies, increase local efforts and personal pledges to accelerate environmental progress.  It is also a time to celebrate improvements we’ve already made.  Not only Earth Day BUT Every Day is a time to act to protect our planet.  Celebrating Earth Day Every Day means doing things that save energy, conserve water, reducing, reusing and recycling what we can and making choices that protect our environment.

Each year, Mid Michigan Waste Authority sponsors a one-day Earth Day event, Go Wild! Celebrate Earth Day at the Children’s Zoo at Celebration Square in Saginaw. A variety of Earth Day Partners are invited to join the educational and fun-filled day that attracts over 1,500 children and their families.
