Garbage Guru Tidbits – Winter Weather Conditions

Trash and recycling trucks may be big, but they don’t handle well when road conditions are questionable. Heavy snowfall, high winds, drifting and icy roads may cause service impacts. Please be patient and give collection crews a break with these suggestions.

  • Set trash cans, bags and recycling bins on flat surfaces only. Containers set in snow banks create a slip and fall hazard and may not be collected.
  • Set trash out in bags instead of in trash cans to reduce litter and keep your trash can from rolling and becoming a traffic hazard.
  • Place white trash bags in open view so they won’t blend into the snow and get missed.
  • Consider waiting to set out materials until the following week when weather and road conditions have improved.
