Incandescent light bulb (not CFL)

Incandescent light bulbs do not contain toxic materials, so it is ok to dispose of them with your trash. However, these bulbs are fragile and can break in your garbage container; avoid accidents by disposing of your incandescent bulbs inside used packaging which can contain the glass if it breaks.

Best Option

Trash: Put this item in your trash.

Instructions: Broken glass should be contained in a rigid plastic container or sturdy cardboard box that is securely taped shut and placed in your trash cart or can. If you do not have a cart or can place next to your curbside trash. Write “broken glass” on the outside of the container so the driver knows to handle it with care.

Alternate ways to recycle: Batteries Plus Bulbs accepts a wide variety of batteries and light bulbs for recycling, including incandescent light bulbs. See a full list of items they accept here. Depending on the item, a small fee may apply. Find your closest location here.
