If you have bed bugs, have your home inspected and treated by a pest management professional before you decide to dispose of anything. Typically, clothing, bedding, and furniture from a home with a bed bug problem can be successfully treated.
If you do need to dispose of bed bug infested items, please follow these guidelines:
Waste Management drivers will not collect mattresses that are known to be infested with bed bugs. If you are disposing of an infested mattress (or any piece of furniture) wrap it in heavy-duty plastic and securely seal it with duct tape so the bed bugs cannot escape. Do this in the room where the item was stored so that bed bugs do not spread throughout the house.
For the disposal of smaller items such as clothes, bed linens, toys, throw rugs, shoes and other personal belongings, place the items in a heavy-duty trash bag and use tape to seal the bag so that bedbugs can’t escape.
