Many area residents got a head start on their lawn cleanup projects this year, thanks to some unseasonably warm days in February. Mid Michigan Waste Authority is reminding the public that yard waste season does not start until the first week in April for the 14 member communities offering that service.

Residents in the Village of Birch Run, Bridgeport Twp, Buena Vista Twp, Carrollton Twp, City of Frankenmuth, James Twp, Kochville Twp, City of Saginaw, Saginaw Twp, Spaulding Twp, Village of St Charles, Thomas Twp, Tittabawassee Twp and the City of Zilwaukee receive weekly yard waste service and may begin setting out yard waste cans and bags on their first regular collection day in April.

Trash drivers will not collect yard waste that is put at the curb, and yard waste trucks will not be servicing participating communities until the first week of April, so yard waste should not be put the curb before that time. Residents may only use 35 gallon or smaller cans labeled with yard waste stickers or compostable paper bags. Yard waste in plastic bags will not be collected.

More details about the 2018 yard waste season will be posted on the MMWA Facebook page and website soon. In the meantime, please call the MMWA office at (989) 781-9555 if you have questions.
