The Mid Michigan Waste Authority (MMWA) is excited to announce the start of its annual Holiday Light Recycling Drive on America Recycles Day, November 15. This seasonal program gives residents an easy way to recycle broken or unwanted holiday lights instead of sending them to the landfill.
Why Recycle Holiday Lights?
Old string lights contain valuable materials like copper and plastic that can be recovered and reused. Recycling helps conserve resources, reduce waste, and protect the environment — all while keeping the holidays bright and sustainable.
How It Works:
- Drop off your old or non-working holiday lights at any participating location during normal business hours.
- Only string lights are accepted. Please do not include other decorations or electronics.
- Collection bins will be available through the holiday season until January 15, 2026.
Drop-Off Locations:
Brady Township Hall, Bridgeport Twp Govt Center, Can Council, Carrollton Twp DPW, Frankenmuth City Hall, Hayes Park during the Freeland Light Show, James Township Hall, Kochville Twp Office, Lakefield Township Hall, Merrill Village Office, Mid Michigan Waste Authority, Richland Township Office, Saginaw City Public Works, Saginaw Twp DPS Bldg, Spaulding Twp Office, St. Charles District Library, Swan Creek Township Office, Thomas Twp Public Safety Bldg, Tittabawassee Township Office, Wheeler Township Office, and Zilwaukee City office.
Celebrate America Recycles Day by making sustainability part of your holiday tradition. Together, we can light up the season responsibly!

MMWA would like to remind our residents that safety is always MMWA’s, WM’s and Priority’s top concern.
Currently, both WM and Priority are attempting service in all Friday communities. Given today’s weather conditions including accumulating snow, iciness, and blowing winds, service may be impacted in some areas.
If Priority and WM trucks encounter areas that are not safe to travel, they will be unable to collect your materials until your next service day.
A few reminders:
- In extremely inclement weather, consider holding your trash or recyclables until the next week if you can.
- Do not place carts, bags, bins, or cans in icy areas or on top of or behind snow mounds.
- Avoid using white bags in snowy weather. If your driver can’t see your trash, he can’t collect it.
For inclement weather updates and cancellations visit MMWA’s website at www.recyclemotion.org and Facebook.
