Inclement weather update for Tuesday, January 15, 2019

Drivers in the Mid Michigan Waste Authority service area are encountering icy roads this morning, with some area schools closed due to the hazardous road conditions. Waste Management trucks will be attempting collection today, but some roads and areas may not be serviceable.

Roads/areas found to be impassable when the truck goes by will not have collection service reattempts until the regular collection day next week. Residents who set out materials that are not picked up are asked to remove materials from the curb until their service day next week.

For more information, call (989) 781-9555.

Martin Luther King holiday will not delay trash service

The upcoming Martin Luther King, Jr. Day holiday on Monday, January 21, will not cause any delays in trash and recycling services provided to the 34 communities served by the Mid Michigan Waste Authority.

Residents should prepare and set out materials on their regularly scheduled collection day.

Holidays that do impact solid waste pickup are New Year’s Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Day. Any communities with service that falls on the holiday and those that are serviced on the weekdays after the holiday will have collection delayed by one day. Service is not impacted when the holiday falls on a weekend.

Curbside Christmas tree disposal runs through January

Now that the excitement of the holiday season is over, area residents are facing the chore of putting away their decorations and disposing of their fresh cut Christmas trees.

Residents in all 34 communities served by the Mid Michigan Waste Authority can put their fresh Christmas trees to the curb by 7 am on their regular trash day throughout the month of January.

Residents do not need to remove ornaments, tinsel, garland or other decorative items, and trees can be put to the curb with or without a tree bag.

Trees that are frozen to the ground or covered with snow will not be collected until they can be safely accessed by the driver. Large or heavy trees may have to be picked up by the bulk truck, and in those cases, trees should be collected within two days of the resident’s regular service day.

The service applies only to Christmas trees that have been used as indoor holiday décor. State law prohibits yard waste and vegetation from being disposed of in the landfill; however, the ban does not apply to Christmas trees. Artificial trees may be placed to the curb as a bulky item at any time of year.

Residents who would like to dispose of unwanted Christmas tree lights can take part in the MMWA Holiday Light Recycling Drive, which runs through Jan. 15, 2019. Lights may be dropped off at several locations throughout mid-Michigan

Christmas, New Year’s Day holidays mean some trash delays

The upcoming Christmas and New Year’s Day holidays will impact solid waste collection services provided to some of Mid Michigan Waste Authority (MMWA)’s member communities. There will be no trash or recycling collection provided on Tuesday, December 25 or Tuesday, January 1.

Collection services will be delayed one day for communities with Tuesday through Friday service days during both holiday weeks. Residents should prepare and set out materials one day later than they normally do during the holiday weeks. Residents with a Monday service day will not be impacted by the holidays and should put their materials out on their regular collection day.

Inclement weather update for Monday, November 26, 2018

Most area school districts are closed as we face our first substantial snowfall of the season. Snow continues to accumulate this morning, which means worsening road conditions in our communities, particularly in the rural areas. Waste Management trucks will be on the road attempting service today but drivers may encounter areas that are not safe to travel. If that happens, they will be unable to collect your materials until next week. Please remove your materials from the curb until your next service day so they are not in the path of snowplows. Questions? Call us at (989) 781-9555.

MMWA yard waste season ends Nov 30 for most communities

City of Frankenmuth, City of Saginaw, Saginaw Twp, extend season

The last week of November marks the end of Mid Michigan Waste Authority’s seasonal curbside yard waste collection for most MMWA member communities.  However, three municipalities – City of Frankenmuth, Saginaw Township and the City of Saginaw – have opted to extend their yard waste seasons.

Yard waste services are offered by 14 of Mid Michigan Waste Authority’s 34 municipal members: Village of Birch Run, Bridgeport Township, Buena Vista Township, Carrollton Township, City of Frankenmuth, James Township, Kochville Township, City of Saginaw, Saginaw Township, Village of St. Charles, Spaulding Township, Thomas Township, Tittabawassee Township and City of Zilwaukee. The last YW collection days for those communities are noted below:

The City of Saginaw provides its own yard waste collection services, so the City’s extension is weather permitting.

Extending yard waste season is an individual municipality decision that must be made before the end of November. Residents should watch the MMWA website and Facebook page for the latest information about curbside collection services, including yard waste.

A number of MMWA member communities offer limited-time brush drop-off sites or collection. Residents should contact their community’s municipal office directly to find out if this service is available. Yard waste stickers are available at municipal offices in participating communities or free through MMWA. For more information on yard waste guidelines, contact MMWA at (989) 781-9555.

Mid Michigan Waste Authority is a government entity providing comprehensive residential solid waste services to approximately 69,000 households in 34 communities across the Saginaw Valley area. For more information about MMWA programming, visit www.recyclemotion.org.

Thanksgiving holiday will delay some trash service

The upcoming Thanksgiving holiday will cause a one-day delay in residential collection of recycling, trash, and yard waste for 18 MMWA member communities whose regular collection service day falls on the Thanksgiving holiday on Thursday, Nov. 22 or the Friday after the holiday. Residents who normally receive curbside collection services on Thursday or Friday should prepare and set out materials one day later than normal.

Communities with a Monday through Wednesday collection day will not be impacted by the holiday and should put their materials to the curb on their regular service day. Those serviced on Thursday should place their materials out on Friday and those serviced on Friday should place their materials out on Saturday.

Veterans Day holiday will not impact trash service

The upcoming Veterans Day holiday on Sunday, November 11, will not cause any delays in trash and recycling services provided to the 34 communities served by the Mid Michigan Waste Authority. Service is never impacted when the holiday falls on a weekend.

Residents should prepare and set out materials on their regularly scheduled collection day during the week of November 11.

Holidays that do impact solid waste pickup include New Year’s Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Day. Any communities with service that falls on the holiday and those that are serviced on the weekdays after the holiday will have collection delayed by one day.

Early trash pickup on Halloween to keep trick-or-treaters safe

To ensure the safety of trick-or-treaters and area drivers on Halloween, Mid Michigan Waste Authority refuse collection services will begin an hour earlier on Wednesday, October 31.

Waste Management garbage, yard waste, and recycling trucks will hit the streets to start collecting solid waste materials at 6 am on Halloween instead of the normal 7 am start time.  To assist with getting refuse collection services completed before trick or treat activities begin, residents in communities serviced on Halloween should place their materials at the curb by 6 am.

The affected communities include Bridgeport Twp, Chapin Twp, Frankenmuth City, Frankenmuth Twp, City of Saginaw (residents with a Wednesday service day only), Spaulding Twp, and Tittabawassee Twp.

Residents with questions should contact Mid Michigan Waste Authority at (989) 781-9555.

Columbus Day holiday will not delay trash service

The upcoming Columbus Day holiday on Monday, October 8, will not cause any delays in trash, recycling and yard waste services provided to the 34 communities served by the Mid Michigan Waste Authority.

Residents should prepare and set out materials on their regularly scheduled collection day during the holiday week.

The list of holidays that do impact solid waste pickup are: New Year’s Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Day. Any communities with service that falls on the holiday and those that are serviced on the weekdays after the holiday will have collection delayed by one day. Service is not impacted when the holiday falls on a weekend.
